On August 24, 2010, Depuy Orthopoedics, a Johnson & Johnson Company, issued a recall notice for its ASR™ Hip Resurfacing System and ASR™ XL Acetabular System, hip replacement metal on metal prostheses because of a higher than expected revision rate. Silvestri and Massicot is currently accepting cases for individuals who have received a Depuy hip replacement device.
Failures associated with these parts may include component loosening, malalignment, infection, fracture of the bone, dislocation, metal sensitivity, soft tissue reactions, pain inflammation and fluid build up. Some people may develop progressive soft tissue reactions to metal wear debris. Debris from these devices can cause soft tissue damage which may compromise the results of your surgery. Some people may develop pseudotumors. Problems with the device may be detected by diagnostic tests including x-ray, ultrasound, MRI and certain blood tests. You may or may not be experiencing symptoms at this time, but may do so in the future. Your doctor can tell you if you received a Depuy hip replacement. We can assist you in obtaining this information.
You may receive a letter from your doctor or Depuy concerning this matter. If you received one of these letters, Depuy is recommending follow up with your doctor and may agree to pay your medical expenses, including replacement of the Depuy device. It is important that you know you may have legal rights entitling you to damages significantly beyond those which Depuy may offer you, including lost wages, medical expenses, disability and pain and suffering.
